Belief

I'm finding that as I scratch the surface of history, the similarities in myths and legends from varying cultures and time periods definitely support one God, but the thing is... Who 's right? Or are they all versions of one truth. Chinese whispers? I've had this on my heart for a while....




















"What is a Unitarian?

This is a very perplexing question."What" may not be the proper question and but "who."

A Unitarian may be a person from any nation or race.

He or she is a person with great cares and concerns.They are people who care about and strive for the good of man.

A Unitarian is a person who believes there is one God.They do not seek to place labels on the way to worship Him.

They do not seek to restrict how others may relate to Him.A Unitarian is a person who seeks to live in harmony and peace.

They recognize all of humanity as family and kin.

They seek to love and serve in anyway they can.

A Unitarian seeks to learn and grow in knowledge and wisdom.They seek out the best instruction in all the world religions.

They seek to live out the unity and principles as best they can.

A Unitarian will accept no limiting doctrine or creed imposed on them.

They listen to the still small voice that they have within.

They follow the guidance of the Spirit wherever it may lead.

A Unitarian has only two great principles to observe.

• They will love and serve the one God.
• They will love and serve their fellow man.

A Unitarian is a very rare breed in the world today.

They do not seek to control, but to serve others in their journey.

They strive to the worthy to be called Children of the One."

This folk song by Dar Williams isn't related to the above Unitarian Statement but it does support my multi-faith tolerance and acceptance stance.

I wonder if this is fence sitting though or is it possible to be eclectic in faith.

Memory Work

Both Charlotte Mason and The Well-Trained Mind advocate memory work and we try to include some most days. Mostly we're happy still working through Robert Louis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses and Kangaroo and Kookaburra have memorised four poems from there, Kookaburra's best is 'The Wind'. They love to perform crazy actions to that particular poem but for the recording I asked them to be sedate. Kookaburra was really disappointed by that and even just a little sulky about it - he loves being crazy!!!! We're also memorising a bible verse a week and they are very proud to pull that out whenever they can. Even though I can't truly say I'm a believer, I still want to raise our boys with christian morals and values which I know will go a long way to help building solid foundations in their character and for me that means most days we read the bible and we practice planting a verse in our hearts so that it can come to our aid when we need it.

When I was a kid, I was petrified of being in front of my class and speaking and that still carries over to being an adult. I loathe this trait and I'm trying to do my best to help our boys be comfortable public speakers. Last year we attended our local Eisteddfod and we left inspired and full of admiration for the kids and adults that could bring themselves to be the center of attention and flourish. Kookaburra was definitely interested in giving it a go this year so I'm helping him learn a monologue which is called 'The Kid' and it's great to hear him recite it and also hear Kangaroo quietly chiming in in the background. I don't know if he'll be allowed to perform this but it's entertaining for us as a family and great memory work for both our boys.

Thanks girls for yesterdays comments :) I remember now that the other thing I really enjoyed about blogging were the comments left by you. It was so supportive of you to be instantly there for me when I was feeling so blue. Thankyou :) And I also enjoy reading your blogs but haven't commented because I wasn't blogging. That can now change. It's nice to be back.

mmm.... blogosphere and me

Why did I stop blogging? Hmmm.... the internet has been a bit of a time chewer really and I wanted to bring how I was spending my time into check. And I guess the other big reason is? It takes me ages to organize my thoughts and upload photos! I'm just not the quickest at this sort of thing. And it's Soooo hard to think with Kookaburra nattering in my ear.

Maybe I'll give it another go.

I like being able to flick back through and see the pics and the diary entries. *sigh* and I do like having contact with the outside world while I'm homeschooling. And I think it's good for others to read an imperfect blog about homeschooling. We have really bad days and absolute smashers at times - huge roller coaster ride. I'm selfish too. I get cross sometimes about this gift of being able to homeschool. At the moment, I'm dealing with feelings of bitterness. I've invested so much of Kangaroo's babyhood into Kookaburra's homeschooling that poor little Kangaroo has just had to wait... and wait... and wait. Kangaroo is four turning five now and other Mummies I know now have complete freedom during school hours because the kiddo's of Kangaroo's age are at school. While I'm at home going half crazy trying to always be the one dealing with my boys, their needs, wants, peculiarities. Don't get me wrong, I prefer this and I know I'm having a pity party but right now that's how I feel and I need to recognize the feelings so I can deal :)

On a brighter note, the year is going well and we are on track for this term. Yay, that was my goal - to make it to the other side and tick off my boxes. I like to tick off the boxes, it makes me feel like I've achieved my goals and I'm heading somewhere. So I guess I'll leave it there. Nothing inspiring today, just waying up whether I want to re-enter blogosphere again. Till next time, have patience with all small people, Grasshopper - because they grow way too darn fast!!!!
